Amazon Air in India was launched Monday by Amazon, the E-commerce giant. This is to improve its transport network in India and to enable faster deliveries to customers in India.
Quikjet Cargo Airlines Private Limited, will operate the full cargo capacity of a Boeing 737-880 aircraft. Amazon will then use it.
K. T. Rama Rao from Telangana was present at Quikjet’s induction ceremony for its new Amazon-branded aircraft. Also, Amazon’s top leadership included Akhil Saxena – Vice- President, Customer Fulfilment, APAC, MEN & LATAM and WW Customer Service and Sarah Rhoads – Vice President, Amazon Global Air.
Amazon India is the first ecommerce company to partner up with a third party air carrier to provide an exclusive air cargo network. This partnership reaffirms Amazon’s long-term commitment in India to improve its transportation infrastructure.
Quikjet will use these aircraft to transport Amazon customer shipment to India cities such as Hyderabad and Delhi. Amazon Air in India will reinforce the company’s commitment to building its capability to meet its customers’ needs and growing its transportation network to speed up deliveries.
Minister Rama Rao stated that Amazon is the first Indian ecommerce company to launch an air cargo network. It chose Telangana as the winner to launch Amazon Air outside North America, Europe, and Asia.
The minister said that Amazon’s love story continues to grow with Hyderabad. He mentioned that Hyderabad is already home of Amazon’s largest campus. AWS Data Centre announced an investment in Hyderabad of 4.4 billion dollars by 2030. Hyderabad is also home to Amazon’s largest fulfillment centre Asia.
Rama Rao stated Telangana has a conducive climate for multi-modal connectivity. Hyderabad has also emerged as a major hub of e-commerce distribution. “We have been working towards strengthening Hyderabad’s air cargo infrastructure. We welcome the launch Amazon Air, which will further aid in making Hyderabad a hub for cargo and create additional employment opportunities,” he stated.
According to the minister, Telangana was and will continue to be a shining light in terms of attracting investments. In the eight last years, 47 billion dollars worth of investments were attracted to the state. This includes the 2.6 billion dollar commitments made by Davos’ World Economic Forum last week.
“Amazon Air is coming to India at a critical time. In the past few years, many positive steps have been taken to develop our logistics, transport and fulfilment infrastructure. Amazon Air’s investment in India will enhance the delivery experience for Indian customers. Akhil Saxena said that Amazon Air will launch in India with over 1.1 Million sellers, which will enable growth for ancillary companies such as aviation and transportation.
Amazon Air, which was established in the U.S. in 2016, operates an air cargo network that includes more than 110 aircraft and over 70 destinations worldwide.
