It’s no surprise how streaming services have taken the media industry by storm in just a small matter of time. The concept behind these services is to make movies and TV series – entertainment in short, easily accessible to viewers.
Where you once had to wait for a specific day of the week to watch the next episode of a particular series or rent out movies from the home video store; or even resort to Torrent and using random streaming websites to watch movies and TV series, streaming services have literally been a game changer.
Streaming Services vs. Digital TV
You would think TV would become obsolete or even a thing of the past once apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc. came out. And though there is a serious difference in how some millennials and gen Z look at television compared to our elders, it is still pretty much relevant.
Internet and TV service providers haven’t backed out just because the media industry’s changed. They’ve evolved their services to keep up with the competition. And what they provide customers with is an upgraded version of Cable TV, and the latest introduction: Digital TV.
WOW! cable TV is rated as one of the top cable TV providers across the United States, but more providers are providing Cable TV and Digital TV packages too. Each varies in its pricing and package/bundle details but when it comes down to Digital TV, almost all of them have the same characteristics.
What to Expect With Digital TV
1.HD Quality
Your regular television channel video display quality depended on the channel itself back in the day, no matter how great your TV was. However, with digital TV, TV channels are supported in HD quality, so it’s better than it ever was. Your basic LCD screen can do justice too.
2.Extensive Channel Line-Up
Back in the day, there were just certain channels available on certain provider networks. You could find certain channels at your grandmother’s home that you wouldn’t find at yours. However, digital TV brings about a whole new era of television.
Customers can now enjoy everything from multiple sports channels, and entertainment channels, to kids’ channels and news networks as well. But it’s not just restricted to the local channels. The best part about digital TV? International and premium channels! That’s right, providers tend to have over a hundred channels on their network that include some of the renowned channels from across the globe. So there’s endless variety for people to flick through.
3.On-Demand Library
This isn’t something you would’ve expected of your usual television. Channels are what television is all about, right? Over time, providers in order to stay relevant in the competition have introduced their own movie and TV series libraries. It’s similar to that what streaming services offer.
So what is an On-Demand Library? With digital TV, customers can enjoy an entire library with hundreds and thousands of options for movies and TV series to watch. Talk about giving streaming giants some competition – having regular cable TV along with an extensive collection of movies and series to choose from.
Streaming services tend to promote more of their original content while having trouble listing more of other content by other production houses. In which case you might just find more options on your provider’s On-Demand Library!
4.Mobile App
Sure, even Netflix and Amazon have their smartphone apps so what’s so new about this with TV? Well, having a smartphone app from your provider allows you to watch live television, all its channels, or any of the On-Demand selections – on your phones, tablets, and even laptops! So really, digital TV isn’t all that bad.
But Aren’t Streaming Services Cheaper As Opposed To Television
Now here’s the thing, streaming services as we already mentioned, usually produce their own (original) content. And they don’t normally list a lot of content from other production houses – due to copyright and other legal issues. It is because of this that people usually subscribe to multiple services: Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Amazon Prime, and others.
Stack them up and the monthly bill would definitely be around the same as any other digital TV package. But here’s what you should know, often times within those packages is not just the digital TV service, but internet service too. And of course, how can you use these streaming services without the internet?
Of course, each to its own when it comes down to preferences. The younger generation would still do without a television service because there’s no news or sports event that you can’t find on the internet now. Safe to say, however, there is still an audience for digital TV otherwise it wouldn’t really be available much had the concept failed.
